Thirteen Schoolhouses Become One Town
Lakeville's school history says a lot about how the town grew. As late as the 1890s, the surrounding Union Township countryside was served by 13 separate one-room schoolhouses; in 1898 they consolidated into a single two-story elementary school in Lakeville itself, and by 1931 the town had built the Old Lakeville High School, later listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

The consolidation-era construction that gave Lakeville its 1898 elementary school and 1931 high school set the tone for a lot of the town's older housing stock, too -- homes from that same Union Township building wave typically carry the taller, narrower window openings standard to the period, worth matching when planning a replacement.
